Is it okay to swallow Skinner's Salve or put it in my nose?

Skinner's Salve is an effective, external cold medicine. It provides temporary relief from coughing due to colds. When used as directed, its medicated vapors will help you rest more comfortably. As mentioned on the label, Skinner's Salve should be applied only to the chest and throat to relieve cough due to cold symptoms, or to muscular areas and joints for aches and pains. Since Skinner's ointment is an oil-based medication, it shouldn't be used under or inside the nose or inside the mouth, or swallowed. Any oil-based product can get into the lungs if used improperly.

What are the Skinner's Salve dosage directions?

Directions: adults and children 2 years and older:

Cough: Rub a layer on chest and throat up to three times a day. Keep clothing loose to let the vapors rise to the nose and mouth. If desired, cover with a dry, soft cloth, but keep clothing loose to let vapors rise to the nose and mouth.

Muscle aches/pains: Rub on sore area. Repeat up to three times daily or as directed by a doctor.

Children under 2 years of age: Ask a doctor.

DO NOT HEAT. NEVER EXPOSE SKINNER'S SALVE TO FLAME OR A MICROWAVE, OR PLACE IN ANY CONTAINER IN WHICH YOU ARE HEATING WATER. SUCH IMPROPER USE MAY CAUSE THE MIXTURE TO SPLATTER AND CAUSE BURNS.
